This trip was a surprise birthday gift from my fiancee. Small business owners and full-time students while planning an August wedding, it has been so difficult to stop moving and just enjoy the moments. Your cabin by the sea alllowed us time to breathe. We walked along the beach, grilled more food than we could eat (leftovers for when we get home!) and slept in the coziest bed I've every snuggled into. Thank you for your hospitality in allowing us to extend our trip, and we will most certainly be back. Turning 31 with Curtis while watching the sun set over the Pacific Ocean was just a dream.

I do beieve my hubby and I agree that our batteries are fully recharged thanks to the 'hot-tub-tree-house', deliciously cozy bed, combing the Secret Beach, and playing ample amounts of board/card games. It is very apparent that this space has bee wel loved and cared for, and we are quite grateful for the chance to unplug, unwind and focus on being Honey-Bears. With any luck, we will be back soon!

Pro's: Super soft bed & pillows (Loved it) View of the ocean from bed Jacuzzi hot tub was HOT and relaxing, plenty of room for two generous amount of supplies left for guest super soft oversized robes & hot tub towels spacious mostly private deck with great view and eating area Affordable (major pro) Cons: The maintenance noise from the main house took away from the quiet atmosphere Driveway is steep! But this is how you get the view

Owner Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us your review. We are delighted that you enjoyed the Romance of the Sea and what we provide in it. Thank you also for your patience while we finished up a major project in the larger house. With our great sunshine and dry weather, it was essential to get the siding completed before the predicted rain. The project is now complete, we passed inspection and are good to go! Next time you come, all you will hear is the roar of the crashing surf and the shrill cry of the gulls!

The owners, Debi and Rob, were wonderful to work with and their cottage was well stocked with nice personal touches throughout. The kitchen had everything necessary to make food at the cottage which was great. We also loved that it was a close walk to the beach and we could come back and warm up in the great hot tub! We loved staying here for our honeymoon. It was so cozy and a lovely little home for two to stay in. The hot tub was a definite favorite, along with the ocean view (although it was fairly foggy during our stay, but that can't be helped ;) ). It was nice having a nice sink and refrigerator, and the television/sofa were nice, too. If any of our friends are in Lincoln City, I would definitely love to recommend this place to them. It's got a good amount of privacy as well as relative nearness to stores and restaurants, without being too much in the city area. Thanks so much!!

This is a perfect spot for two people to relax in Lincoln City. The owners are wonderful to deal with and they've put a lot of thought into making sure that anything you might need is there. The cabin is clean and we enjoyed the hot tub. It is private enough even with people staying in the main house. The beach was accessible and a good cardio workout getting back up the hill, but your reward is a beautiful water view. Only thing I'd change is to update the bathroom. I recommend this place without hesitation.

Next trip we take will be our 8th staying at the cottage, nothing else compares for us. Every time we have stayed we have had the lovely deer as visitors, this trip we saw a total of nine and have great pictures of them all, they really are awesome to watch. Deb and Rob are the nicest people and always so very helpful with ideas of where to eat, shop, and discover everything the beach has to offer. We can't wait for our next trip it will never be soon enough.

Our stay was a lot of fun, really enjoyed the hot tub! Although we couldn't use the hottub til second day, it didn't warm up til then. The place is nice and perfect for a couple people, bed was super comfortable. The decor could be updated but it was still nice. There weren't people staying in the house that shares the driveway so I don't know if that would change my opinion or not. I would definitely stay again, the view is great from deck/hottub! And the owners seem like great people. Can't wait to go back :)

Pleasant stay. Cons: *Initially greeted by a strong chemical/floral spray smell. This diminished somewhat by the second day, but lingered. *Also greeted by a beeping smoke alarm (with non-replaceable battery) laying on top of the fridge. Wanted to smash it with a hammer or dispose of it, but afraid we'd be charged *Robes, though a nice touch, were made from scratchy polyester *Strange odd-shaped and cheap-feeling wine glasses and bowls *Close proximity to other properties, though well-shielded by fencing *Located in a fairly dense (though quiet) residential area. Definitely not an "away from it all" feel *Bed, though large, was quite soft Pros: *Comfortable space *Relatively easy access to beach, including "secret beach" to the north during low tide *Great communication *Kitchen well-stocked with pots, pans, utensils, etc *Clean *Nice towels *Wonderful spa/hot-tub

    • Excellent Beach Getaway!

Reviewed by J & J from Salem, Oregon on May 09, 2011 for their trip during April 2011

This studio cottage is as described with a really good view of the ocean from the deck and hot tub. We were fortunate to have wonderful weather, sunny and warm, which allowed us ample time to use the deck. It is a bit difficult to see the view from inside the cottage as the windows along the front are fairly high up. The property is very clean and well-maintained. The hot tub was immaculate and was the primary reason, along with price, that we selected this accomodation over the many others that were listed on the Home Away site. I don't believe that there is a better deal along the northern coast for a group of 2. We also had prompt responses from the owners with regard to our desire to rent and any other questions that came up. The mini kitchen has a nice array of dishes and implements, including a toaster and a coffee maker. The cooktop has two burners, but there is no oven or toaster oven if that is your thing--not a problem for us though. The bed is super comfortable! The decor, while not quite our style, avoids the sterile feel of a commercial hotel. The only negative we had was a slight noise issue from the Shearwater House which is actually very close to this cottage. This was solved by opening and closing our door one time. While I suspect that the owners don't rent to real party crowds, if a large noisy group were in the big house it would negatively impact the ambience of the cottage. We recommend spending lots of time in the hot tub! We also recommend the charming Hawk Creek Cafe in nearby Neskowin for any meal. We recommend Jasmine Thai in Lincoln City for the food, but as with the other two restaurants owned by this group, the ambiance in the restaurant is either lacking or weird, so I personally would have preferred to bring the food back to Romance by the Sea and eaten on the deck. My partner splits with me on this point though, his point being the egg rolls are better fresh. The deer made several appearances during our stay. The secret beach is beautiful and we will visit again when there is a lower low tide. I have been coming to this area since I was a kid and did not know this beach existed! We appreciated the wi-fi. The only up-grade we would suggest is to a flat screen television. Thanks Debi!

The bed was amazingly comfortable and the kitchen was perfect. We were beginning to think everyone made up the deer in their reviews because I was looking for them and lo and behold the last morning there they were to the left of the deck chomping on the shrubs and trees. There was a Momma and baby and they strolled around then both plopped down and sat in the sunny yard even while we were loading the car!! The huge blackberry bushes were plentiful so we did some snacking :)

Tranquil, Privacy, Quaintness, Comfort, Luxury...we were not disappointed in any way. This property "made" our trip. Being able to return from a days exploration to the private deck w/the great view, even from the hot tub, extended each vacation day. Having a ready to use BBQ was a real treat. The hot tub was worry free. The full size fridge held all of our seafood goodies from local merchants and cracking crab on the deck while taking in the sounds and sights of the ocean was worth a million bucks! Happy for the opportunity to meet Rob on site that day, he and handyman Lonnie were a huge help in meeting our peculiar uphill parking dilemma (brake-less 69 vw bug in tow). This is the first rental we will seek when returning each and every time. Rob was extremely accommodating and a gracious host. Helpful hint: Set the timer on the coffee pot to aid in being able to get out of the most comfortable bed you've EVER slept in. Thanks again for everything!
